+FAQ

What is the minimum and maximum insertion depth and clearance for the ShockStop Suspension Seatpost?

What length should I choose? 350mm or 280mm?

350mm is our standard size, but we developed the 280mm to allow for a wider range of fits.

Measure your current seatpost from the clamp collar to the saddle rail - If that distance is less than 205mm, you can use the 280mm seatpost. If not, order the 350mm size.

What kind of saddle bags can I use with the ShockStop Suspension Seatpost?

Most standard strap-based saddle bags will fit the ShockStop Suspension Seatpost without issue. If your saddle bag uses rigid clips, clamps, or some other inflexible attachment method, it's possible that your bag may not be compatible.
Any bag that just attaches to the saddle or just attaches to the post is fine. But when you attach to both the post and the saddle you need to account for the relative motion of the saddle to the post. This means that if you cinch down the bag when off the bike it might have some movement when you get on the saddle and compress the post a bit - this might not be a problem but it might be something that is an issue.
It all really depends on weight and how stable the bag is and if it is attached to both the post and the saddle - it can be fine but with a lot of weight it will mean it can move around when the post is compressed. It will likely come down to testing it out with your specific bag to see how it works. And if you have a bag that is able to be secured to just the post or to the post and a rear rack then you will be all set.

Is the stiffness of the ShockStop Seatpost adjustable?

Absolutely - We designed the ShockStop Seatpost so that you can adjust it to perfectly match your weight and riding style. The seatpost comes with a standard spring and an additional spring that can be added inside the standard spring to increase the stiffness. The preload adjustment knob at the bottom of the seatpost allows you to adjust the spring preload - the amount of force required to cause the saddle to start moving.

Different bikes sometimes have different seatpost diameters. The ShockStop Suspension Seatpost is 27.2mm in diameter, so if your bike's seatpost is larger, you'll need a shim to adapt our seatpost to your bike's frame. Don't worry though, the shims are super-lightweight and essentially invisible once installed.

Not sure what size seatpost you have currently? There are a couple different ways to find out.

• Most seatposts have the diameter printed somewhere near the bottom of the post. You'll need to remove the seatpost from the bike frame (mark your existing seatpost height with a bit of tape before you remove it so you can replace it easily), and look for a number like 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 (etc.). That is the diameter of the post.
• If you know the make, model, and year of your bike, you may be able to look up the seatpost diameter online. Feel free to shoot us an email at info@redshiftsports.com - we'll see if we can help out.
• Ask your local bike shop - they'll be able to accurately measure your bike's seatpost.

Non-compatible posts: Unfortunately, if your bike's seatpost is smaller than 27.2mm (for example, the 25.4mm posts found on some recent model Cannondale Synapses) our seatpost is currently not compatible with your bike. Likewise, if you have a bike with an aero/oval/non-round seatpost, or if your bike has an integrated seatmast, the seatpost is also not compatible.
